On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Conference and the faculty and staff of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE), Tongji University, I warmly welcome biofilm scientists and researchers from all over the world in Shanghai. We are here to review recent advances in understanding biofilm processes, to exchange ideas and to discuss future challenges in biofilm research. Shanghai is the most modern city in China that offers the visitors fascinating history, splendid architecture, modern public transportation, access to the most recent technological advances and the old-fashioned hospitality; it will offer our distinguished guests sincere friendliness and unique attractions.
